Hey everyone! Welcome back. Today, I’m thrilled to give you a tour of my 50-gallon planted community tank. Keeping a planted tank is incredibly rewarding. Beyond the stunning aesthetics, the plants act as a natural biological filter, absorbing nitrates and pumping oxygen into the water. It’s a self-sustaining slice of nature that provides a sense of peace and security for the fish that artificial decor just can’t replicate. I often get asked why I chose a community setup over a species-only tank. For me, a community tank is far superior because of the dynamic social interactions. In a species-only tank, behavior is predictable. But here, I get to see a complex 'social ladder'—from the graceful Pearl Gouramis at the top to the busy Bronze Corys on the sand. It creates a layered, vertical interest where every corner of the tank is bustling with life and different 'jobs,' like my Siamese Algae Eaters keeping the leaves clean. It’s a functional ecosystem, not just a display. The biggest update lately is that I’ve officially added a DIY CO2 system! I wanted to give my plants that extra boost, and the results have been breath-taking. Before the CO2, some of my reds like the Rotala Blood Red and AR Mini were a bit dull. Now, they are exploding with deep, fiery colors. I’m seeing 'pearling' everywhere—tiny oxygen bubbles dancing on the leaves—and my Staurogyne Repens is finally forming that thick, lush carpet I’ve always wanted. It’s amazing how a simple CO2 boost can turn a good tank into a vibrant, high-tech masterpiece. It’s been a joy watching this 50-gallon mature and seeing the fish thrive in this lush environment. Balancing the needs of the plants and the fish is what makes this hobby so special. Thank you so much for watching!
