When first practicing this challenging seated posture, you might find it makes you feel silly, ridiculous, or maybe even a little vulnerable, so we’re sharing with you how to access this pose with more confidence and ease. In this tutorial, we’re showing you how to do GARBHA PINDASANA \ EMBRYO WOMB POSE and transition into KUKKUTASANA / ROOSTER POSE as practiced in Ashtanga’s Primary Series. To access this gatekeeper pose, you’ll need to be able to practice Full Lotus - we’ll share why we don’t typically teach modifications, but also, when it’s okay to use one (don’t worry, we also show modifications for learning how to do this challenging posture if Full Lotus is unavailable!). You’ll learn why it’s important to connect to your core and how it helps you in various parts of this pose, how to make it easier to bring your arms through (hint: water), and different stages to place the arms when learning this pose. You’ll also learn some tips for injury prevention, like how to prevent collapsing in the neck or what incorrect action places pressure on the knees.
