The Fremont Canyon Power Plant sits at the base of steep ravines in Wyoming's North Platte River canyon. When 60-year-old rockfall protection systems needed replacement, the location created absolute constraints: barriers behind the plant were accessible only through one steep ravine, with no helicopter access due to power lines. This project required installing five new rockfall barrier systems, including a custom-engineered lower barrier directly behind the facility, and removing 700 cubic yards of accumulated debris from an inaccessible location. Watch as helicopters deliver materials to upper ravine positions, the Geovert Spider excavator navigates the steep west ravine while transporting loose material under controlled conditions, and a purpose-built zip-line system moves debris from behind the power plant to a staging area at the front - the only viable method for material removal from this landlocked location.
