Long time triathlon coach and former swim coach Brett Sutton recently posted an article (https://www.trisutto.com/post/medley-...) about the use of "medley drills" with his team to help them improve in the swim. In this video, I analyze the strokes of a D1 college swimmer who primarily competes in the 200IM and breaststroke events. I use this analysis to give insight into why Sutton has introduced non-freestyle swimming into his program. We identified in the session a common issue she had across the strokes we looked at and then came up with some plans on how to address it going forward. Coach Sutton, like any experienced coach, used observation and experience to come up with a better solution to improving the efficiency of triathletes with and without swim backgrounds. Due to the constraints of triathlon training, coaches need to push themselves to find more efficient ways for their athletes to gain efficiency. interestingly, a recent article (https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/...) was published on the use of "differential learning" as an enhanced motor learning method. In other words, when learning a new skill the brain and body like a lot of variability. But as with many coaching methods, there are a lot of roads that lead to Rome.
