(4 Mar 1996) English/Nat Security has been stepped up on Jerusalem's buses following Sunday's bombing. Some 1-thousand soldiers have been deployed to protect buses from a repeat attack. Commuters aboard the number 18 - twice the target of Hamas bombs - shrugged off the latest bombing. Security was especially tight at the bus stops along the route of Bus number 18 - struck twice by Muslim extremist suicide bombers. On almost every bus a private security guard rides along with the passengers. The new measures are aimed at restoring public confidence and deterring further attacks. SOUNDBITE: (English) "I don't think any Arabs will get on the bus today." SUPER CAPTION: Moti, driver on bus number 18 As the passengers ride along in the buses - hundreds of soldiers and policemen line the streets of the city. Commuters are shrugging off any fears they may have about travelling on the number 18 bus. They hope the bombers won't strike for a third time on their route. SOUNDBITE: "I feel kind of weird getting onto an 18, but I hope it's safe. I don't want to die on a bus." SUPER CAPTION: Darsy Moller, Jerusalem resident SOUNDBITE: Q: "Do you feel safe?" A: "Yes, I think I feel safe. I thin it's as safe as you can be in a bus in London, or in a subway in Paris, or in a federal building in Oklahoma City these days, so, I think it's safe." SUPER CAPTION: Gregory Moller, Jerusalem resident As the bus approaches the site of Sunday's attack, the tension and sense of foreboding inside the bus becomes heavier. Mourners hold a vigil - lighting candles for each of the 19 people killed in the attack. Israelis, especially those living in Jerusalem, know they could be targeted by the bombers again. A leader of the militant Hamas group says there will be more bloodshed if Israel makes good on its pledge to wage all-out war.
