For our final presentation of Creative Tech Week 2023, we were joined by Eddy Vajarakitipongse, an ArtCenter alum, founder of YaKnowLike studios and director of LAVA (Los Angeles Video Artists). From pushing pixels on CRT monitors in the early 2000’s to shaping immersive experiences for major artists like Diane Thater and James Turrell, Eddy’s career reflects a dynamic fusion of creativity and cutting-edge technology. Eddy takes us behind-the-scenes on several technical projects, showing us how he and his team have created tools for the integration of technology in art, and also delving into the logistical challenges, curatorial considerations, and the strategic uses of software and hardware. Eddy demonstrates that a designer’s investment in learning new tools, and in defining an approach to their practice, should be informed by the intention behind the work. What are your intentions in creating, or what are the intentions of the artists or companies that you’re supporting, and what tools can you adapt, blend or merge to get to that end goal? This program took place on October 7th at the Ahmanson Auditorium in Pasadena, CA, as a part of Creative Tech Week 2023.
