Chants des cantiques for soprano, oboe and piano This piece is freely inspired by selected verses from the Song of Songs. It explores love in its most intimate and spiritual dimension, through a musical language rooted in the French mélodie tradition. The work was written as part of a Master’s degree composition project, whose goal was to compose a piece in the style of the French mélodie of Gabriel Fauré and Ernest Chausson, while allowing subtle influences, and a few leitmotivic gestures, drawn from Richard Wagner. The cycle opens with a free prelude, followed by six short movements forming a continuous poetic journey: Prélude Mon bien-aimé J’ai marché seule au jardin Le jardin d’Éden Mets-moi comme un sceau sur ton cœur Le soir descend Performed by Anne Mullor – oboe Marie de Rivoyre – soprano Patrick Valls – piano Premiered and recorded at the Festival Nocturnes Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles – November 2025
