"In my Physical Therapy practice, the two most common repetitive strain yoga injuries (of the upper extremity) that I see result from two of the most frequently practiced yoga asanas: (1) Adho Mukha Svanasana (downward facing dog) and (2) Chaturanga Dandasana (lowered plank). When these are practiced without a certain level of refinement, the shoulders round forward, the back arches, pelvic and abdominal core muscles don't do their job ... this can lead to repetitive strain injury to one or both shoulders. I have treated patients for AC joint pathology, tendonitis, bursitis, capsulitis, and other issues that resolved after improving their movement patterns while they practiced yoga. This video covers some ways you can refine your practice to prevent such injuries." Dr. Jessie, PT, DPT, E-RYT --- Dr. Jessie, PT, DPT shows some strategies for improving shoulder girdle alignment and stability during some of the most popularly practiced yoga postures.
