Teusch from the manuscript of Heinrich Nicol Philipp, Seibis/franconia-thuringia , dated 1784, played by Ralf Gehler (bagpipe) in the original key g major in July 2016. Parts of the manuscript of Heinrich Nicol Philipp are published in: Zachmeier, E.: 106 Stücke aus der "Notenhandschrift des Heinrich Nicol Philipp" ausgewählt und für Musikanten eingerichtet, Bayreuth, 2004. Here, the tune is written on page 10 as no. 5. In the original manuscript it's no. 39. But most people know it as "Teusch No. 5". Confusing, but that's what it is. TradTanzMusik introduces melodies of traditional dance music of the German-speaking area from manuscripts of the 17th to 20th century. The goal of our page and YouTube-channel is to present melodies from hitherto largely unknown dance music manuscripts and notebooks of dance musicians and teachers. We classify the resources by their place of discovery, informations found in the manuscripts themselves and the language used in them. The tunes were recorded and interpreted by the performers as they saw fit. The recordings are not intended to be seen as an universal version of the respective melody or to represent a "historically correct interpretation". The key played can differ from the key in the source. We would be very glad if these melodies would become popular again. Whether in sessions, for dancing, as band arrangement or whistled under the shower. For this reason, every video includes a slow version of the melody to make it easier to learn them. For every melody we indicate the source and if possible a way to obtain a copy of the source.
