Queensland – Midge Point Welcome to Midge Point, a quiet northern beach flanked by sugarcane fields and long horizons. With a steady thermal breeze and minimal crowds, this spot is all about slow sessions, big space, and that classic Queensland calm. It’s not flashy — but on the right day, it’s magic. Winds typically roll in from the ESE to ENE, with the best pressure building mid-to-late afternoon. It's rarely strong, but clean and consistent enough for cruisy kiting or foil drifting. Lighter setups shine here — especially wings and foils — where the breeze gives just enough pull to connect the dots. Tides can swing hard, with up to 6 m movement, so you’ll want to hit it around mid-tide for easier launch and rideable depth. Too low and you’re dragging gear to the edge of the world. Too high and the beach narrows up quickly. The water stays fairly sheltered, with soft sand underfoot and only small wind-driven chop. The real highlight? A downwinder from the river mouth south along the endless beach. Sandbars shape the water into silky flats, and the further south you go, the smoother it gets. It’s a dream foil run — wide open, shallow enough to play, and usually all to yourself. Just line it up with the right tide and bring a mate for the return run.
