We spent a weekend in Rural Taishan, Guangdong China and tried so many incredible and unique dishes, such as the dish I've featured in the cover of this video, a worm soup. Worm Soup!? That's right! But its not as bad as you are thinking. These are known as peanut worms, and live in shallow mud flats in the Ocean. I like to think of them as shell-less Shellfish, because that's kind of how they tasted. Join me as I explore the incredible flavors and rich culture of Taishan, China, starting with Amanda’s dad’s village, ShaBianCun. In this video, we dive deep into authentic rural life, local delicacies, and unique traditions that have shaped the region for centuries. We begin our journey with a visit to ShaBianCun, where we’re welcomed with a feast of “Teh” glutinous rice dumplings and explore a neighbor’s home to learn about some unusual local food practices—yes, raising turtles for food! While these customs may surprise some, they reflect the village’s self-sustaining way of life that contrasts with modern urban living. As we continue, I’ll talk about the rural-to-urban migration that has transformed villages like ShaBianCun. With an estimated 70-80% of younger generations leaving for bigger cities, many rural communities are left with only older residents. We’ll visit abandoned schools that once served thriving communities, now standing as quiet reminders of this migration. #china #chinavlog #chinatravel #chinafood #foodvlog
