I had to follow up the version from the other day with a dub mix. So, a purer version of Joy Division's 'Atmosphere' Here which I've titled 'Atmospheric Pressure Dub'. I mentioned it on the last video but there's something poignant about those fading echoes on dub that makes me feel kind of nostalgic. It fits with the theme of the song. I thought I should get a video out pretty quickly to celebrate the fact that (whisper it) I've reached 1000 subscribers. A big thanks to all of you for your support so far. I'm looking forward to taking things forward for the channel. With that in mind here's a party with, you know, an atmosphere. Thanks Russ. Speaking of all this, I'll be doing a renaming, perhaps the channel name might send out the wrong vibes? I mean, those who know know (also many people know me as JG, so there's a personal Ballard link), but for passing traffic it could be suspect goods. Which leads me on, I don't want this to just be a channel with long videos, Going forward I'll be breaking up that long video style into shorter videos. These will be designed to stand independently, but forming a narrative so viewed together works too. I'll edit them together once a segment is finished so for those that prefer longform that will be an option. I'm aiming to have a lot more videos coming out. A few of 5 minutes per week. Probably one of those will be music so consider this the first. I have an episode script ready to record tomorrow. I still have the remnants of last weeks cold, it went to my chest. Then, here's age for you, I had a coughing fit while carrying a chair and put my back out. I'm not exactly fighting fit but I reckon I can sit in a chair and chat into the camera for ten minutes tomorrow. Expect that Friday. The Inception of Dub. Given that I've been a coughing, back-spasming mess video recording of me in front of the camera hasn't happened in the last couple of weeks. But here's things I've been learning about: Colour grading (maybe we'll upgrade to colour and I'll pay again to get the tea stains off my teeth (I drink a LOT of tea)), dub mixing (more refining as you can hear). Also I'm refining the concluding parts of the 'Post Punk Reggae Party'. If you know anything about my modus operandi so far you should know this. My first step is to absorb myself in to the music. I learn how to make the style in question, try to put myself in their mindset first. I actually believe that playing with dub delays and playing bass in that style has helped me interpolate what the musicians were trying to get at. Walk a mile in someone's shoes and all that. Then I research, sketch out ideas, read more, write, read, edit, record. That's how it goes. Then I try and circumvent copyright laws and be Adam Curtis without the vault full of super VHS For now, thank you all for doing all the nice stuff. Liking, subscribing, sharing, all that helps a lot. Here's a story, just about the only unpleasant comment I've had was from a guy with a very distinctive name. I of course googled him. Turns out he'd had a brain injury which made him aggressive. And his aggression drove his family away, making him even less emotionally capable. I found an interview in his country's press. He was sat in a Joy Division shirt. I'm glad I didn't respond to him unkindly, I wanted to at the time. So even to the guy who put a nasty comment I say thank you
