I'm in the middle of moving all register-related chips of my homebrew CPU from breadboards to dedicated PCBs. In this video we design, layout, assemble, and test a PCB for the move and immediate buffer, the flags register, and a new 4 bit signed immediate mode. This provides a new home for a few odd bits and pieces that are currently scattered across the breadboards. This video series explores the concepts and techniques that make modern computer processors so incredibly fast and powerful. I build my very own 8-bit processor from individual logic gates and gradually evolve it to become a superscalar out-of-order machine. Along the way, we take a deep dive into contemporary computer architecture in a hands-on fashion and rediscover some of the foundations of modern computing.
