The latest in a recurring series of live, virtual, & interactive "office hours" hosted by Dr. Daniel Swain on various topics related to extreme #weather and #climate. 12/12/2025 topic: I'll offer an update on the ongoing historic flood event in the Pacific Northwest due to an extremely warm and extremely persistent atmospheric river event. I'll also discuss the record warm airmass that has been present across the U.S. West in recent days, and why lower elevation portions of California's Central Valley (as well as adjacent regions) have suffered through weeks of damp chill despite the presence of what has in some cases been a record-warm air mass just a few thousand feet above. Finally, I'll discuss a possible return to northern California rain by mid-late Dec, and ongoing flood concerns in the Pacific Northwest.
