We hiked from Kinsman Notch, south up Mt Moosilauki. The route followed a set of steep waterfalls for over a mile. We climbed up boards screwed into the wet rock face. Eventually, we reached the summit of 4802 feet, the highest mountain since Shenandoah National Park. However, this far north, we were in Alpine conditions. After lunch on Moosilauki, we began the long descent of about 5.5 miles. That section ended with a stream ford near Hikers Hostel on Rt 25. I took a zero the previous day, so to make up those miles, I hiked 4.9 miles very fast ask it was about to get dark. for much of that section, I averaged 3.1 miles an hour and I reached the end before dark. Flatlander and Chips stayed at the Notch Hostel near the Kinsman Range. Tomorrow, they will get a shuttle to Franconia Notch and hike up and extremely steep 2.6 miles to a campsite. Meanwhile, I will drive north to Crawford Notch and on the morning of the 25th, I will hike south into the White Mountains. We will meet that night at Galehead Hut, run by the AMC. They will provide us meals and bunks hight atop Franconia Ridge. On the 26th, I will continue south to Franconia Notch, while Flatlander and Chips go north to retrieve my car at Crawford Notch. Then they will pick me up. More Hut adventures in the Whites will follow.
