On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Santa Monica Closeup photojournalist Fabian Lewkowicz encountered Jennifer Train as she walked back from the hospital in Venice. Train, known to many in the Venice Beach community for her vibrant past and artistic spirit, revealed she had been assaulted the previous night on the Venice Beach Boardwalk. According to Train, Los Angeles Police Department officers promptly arrested the suspect following the incident. Despite the ordeal, Train remained in good spirits, sharing that while she was bruised, she did not suffer any serious injuries. “It’s been a tough night, but I’m okay,” she said, maintaining her characteristic resilience. Train’s life has been a journey marked by both creativity and challenges. Originally from Des Moines, Iowa, she was raised in Scottsdale, Arizona. She fondly recalled her upbringing and later years as an art student at the University of Arizona, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater Arts with an emphasis in scenic design. “I’m a Wildcat, class of ’93,” she proudly shared. Her career led her to Los Angeles, where she worked as an art director and set dresser in the film industry, contributing to projects like an Aimee Mann music video and the movie *Leprechaun 6: In the Hood*. However, the pressures of the industry took their toll. “It was a very toxic environment,” Train reflected. Aside from her professional achievements, Train is a poet, musician, and former pro skateboarder who once toured with the Phoenix Vans team alongside skating legend Tony Hawk. Despite recent hardships, including the assault, Train expressed determination and a hopeful outlook on life. “I’m used to picking myself up and moving forward,” she said, a sentiment echoed in her creative journey and enduring presence within the Venice Beach community.
