Voting is such an important aspect of civic engagement. Not only is it an essential function of our democracy, but it can also be used as an influential tool of empowerment in social work. Voter registration is a simple way for social workers to incorporate civic engagement into their daily lives. The Why Vote? Campaign is intended to be a way for social workers to practice their advocacy skills during the educational careers, so that after they graduate, they feel more prepared, more inspired, and more qualified to continue the effort in their professional life. SPEAK and Voting is Social Work have teamed up to provide you with this resource that will prepare you to host your own voter registration drive. The Why Vote? Campaign is an 8-week advocacy project for social work students and ends with the students involved hosting their own voter registration drive. By hosting the Why Vote? Campaign on your college campus or in your community, you will come away with the understanding and experience of running a large-scale advocacy project, increasing your macro social work capabilities and confidence for the future. You will also be helping to create a healthier democracy by registering people to vote! This video explains the Why Vote? Campaign sponsored by Voting is Social Work and SPEAK (Social Policy Education, Advocacy, and Knowledge). To learn more about the Why Vote?
