Dr Jawed Qureshi explains STIFFNESS or DISPLACEMENT METHOD for Pin-Jointed Statically Indeterminate Structures. • structural mechanics The stiffness or displacement method is an engineering technique used to analyse structures with interconnected joints (like trusses or frames) that can't be solved easily using basic equations. It's particularly handy for statically indeterminate structures, which have more unknown forces than equilibrium equations. Imagine a bridge made of beams and joints. The stiffness method breaks down the structure into smaller pieces and calculates the stiffness of each element, like how much it resists deformation when a force is applied. Next, we apply external loads to the structure and use those stiffness values to create a system of equations, linking forces and displacements at each joint. These equations help us find the unknown forces and displacements. In a nutshell, the stiffness method helps engineers analyse complex structures by treating them like interconnected individual elements, making it easier to solve for unknown forces and displacements.
