Greg Shepard - S&A Financial Services, Inc. #tiaatraditional #tiaaa #tiaa Greg Shepard here. In today's video, I'm addressing a common source of confusion and misinformation surrounding the 10-Year Transfer Payout Annuity (TPA) option within TIAA Traditional. If you're considering this option or already have it, this video is a must-watch. First off, let me clear the air and debunk some misconceptions. Many of you believe that once you opt for the 10-Year TPA, the funds left in TIAA Traditional will drop down to a two and a half percent interest rate indefinitely. That's not entirely accurate, and I'm here to set the record straight. Let me illustrate this with a real-life scenario of one of my clients. They had $250,000 in an RA contract and opted for the 10-Year TPA, receiving around $30,000 to $32,000 annually over nine years. Now, here's the crucial part: the interest rate on the remaining funds is not fixed at two and a half percent. Instead, the interest rate is based on the average crediting rate, which, in this case, is 4.6 percent. However, it's essential to note that TIAA's Board of Trustees meets annually in March to review and potentially adjust the guaranteed rate and the additional rate. While it's rare for these rates to be lowered, economic conditions can influence their decision. So, contrary to popular belief, your funds in TIAA Traditional won't necessarily drop to two and a half percent. Understanding this can make a significant difference in your financial planning and retirement strategy. If you're still unsure about your situation or have questions about the 10-Year TPA option, don't hesitate to reach out. I'm here to help you navigate through the complexities and ensure you make informed decisions. Feel free to contact me, and I'll provide you with personalized guidance tailored to your specific needs.
