During the American Revolution, Moses Hazen led an effort in 1779 to construct a military road from Newbury, Vermont to Quebec to help with a potential invasion of Canada during the American Revolutionary War. Hazen never completed construction on the road: he was recalled by General George Washington, who noted that the road was a ruse to distract the British and their resources. Vermont Historical Society Executive Director Steve Perkins and ABC 22 & Fox 44 Anchor Mike Hoey headed out to the site of the road to learn more about it and the role it played in the American Revolution. This Place in History is produced in partnership by ABC 22 & FOX 44 (www.mychamplainvalley.com) and the Vermont Historical Society.
