Many international students come to the UK believing that a degree automatically leads to high income. The reality is more complex. In this video, I share an honest perspective as a UK university senior lecturer, especially for Pakistani and Indian students who are planning to study in the UK or are already here. I explain why, in today’s UK job market, some skill-based professions — such as plumbers, tile layers, mechanics, dentists, and surgeons — often earn more than many graduates and even professors. This is not because degrees are useless, but because money follows demand and scarcity, not titles. I also share a real personal example from my own life: Tradespeople who worked in my home in the UK own their houses outright, while I live with a mortgage — yet I am happy, because my goal was never just money, but teaching and sharing knowledge. Key ideas discussed in this video: • Why money follows skills with high demand and low supply • Why some degrees do not guarantee high income in the UK • Skills vs degrees: understanding the UK labour market • Why the same professions pay very differently in the UK compared to Pakistan or India • How to think clearly about career goals, income, and personal fulfilment • Studying in the UK: what questions you should ask before investing your time and money This video is not discouraging education. It is about clarity. 👉 If your primary goal is money, develop skills that are scarce and in demand. 👉 If your goal is purpose, teaching, or impact, education can still be the right path. The most important thing is to know what you want first.
