*CHAMPLAIN MOUNTAIN SOUTH RIDGE TRAIL Video Guide* The longer descent from Precipice climb or an add-on after The Beehive, this trail is alternates between flat sections that lead to amazing views and some scrambles up uneven granite... also leading to incredible views. This is the longer recommended way back after climbing PRECIPICE TRAIL, while significantly more scenic, ORANGE & BLACK TRAIL is the easier way back and may be preferred after the rigorous demands (and ordeals?) of that dynamic climb. If a picture is worth 1000 words...what's a video worth? *KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE TRAIL* see the Terrain, Trailheads, Views, and Intersecting Trails... NATURE!!! LIKE or SUBSCRIBE - I'd like for you to do either, I'd LOVE for you to do both! CHAMPLAIN MOUNTAIN SOUTH RIDGE TRAIL begins at the end of BEEHIVE TRAIL or BOWL TRAIL at The Bowl. It begins wandering along the shore on bog boards until arriving at a shallow gulley where the outflow of The Bowl heads downhill to eventually join Otter Creek. From here the trail rises on granite and dirt paths, then a rocky slope, and finally a granite ledge to a brief plateau. After this flatter respite, the climb once again begins upward, now on granite ridges that seem to dance through the trees and emerge with a peak westward to Cadillac and Dorr Mountains. Continuing, hands are helpful for balance and climbing up uneven granite scrambles leading diagonally east to views over The Bowl, The Beehive and Gorham Mountain that aren't available elsewhere and, emerging on a granite plateau, eventually over the water to the Schoodic Peninsula. Glacially scored granite requires attention to footing and occasional steps down require balance... and maybe hands. The plateau ends with some more climbing to forested paths more views now in both directions as you near the top, but not yet. A lift leads to smooth granite and a surprise iris garden nestled in a pocket of granite. The summit approach has more views, and uneven footing bit atop Champlain Mountain views in every direction may be the best in the park and a persistent puddle may have "mountain frogs" as a final surprise! I hope my efforts make your watching experience AND your next visit to ACADIA NATIONAL PARK ... wicked awesome! FRIENDLY REMINDER: no matter the difficulty, hiking has risks... HAVE A PLAN... the best times are had when planned properly. Alternate, shorter routes than what you intend to hike are abundant in Acadia... your hiking plan can include them as contingencies. Injuries can happen, let others know your planned route and timeframe... cell service is spotty in Acadia National Park. Remember: know your limits so you can push them, and DEFINITELY REMEMBER: what goes up must come down which includes you... AND if you enjoy the tour, your guide does accept likes, subscriptions and comments... (an option of leaving a tip: ie a link for actual tips through patreon is likely coming soonish). Be Safe! Live your purpose, change your world... Share your knowledge, change the world...
