Australia’s fuel security is too important for empty assurances.

When Chris Bowen talks about energy policy, I don’t think many Australians take much comfort — especially after years of promises about electricity prices coming down. With growing uncertainty overseas, we should be strengthening Australia’s own fuel supplies and reserves, not relying on the hope that global markets will always deliver. But investment in refining and fuel supply is being discouraged by red tape, green tape and heavy-handed IR laws that make it harder for industry to invest here. If the government is serious about Australia’s fuel security, it needs to start removing the barriers to investment — not adding more of them.
