Aspect 5: Alliteration This video is looking at Phase 1 Phonics - Aspect 5 - Alliteration. The aim of this aspect is to develop the children's understanding of the initial sounds of words. Today we are playing the game "Silly soup". This is where you find lots of different objects that start with a particular initial sound. For this video I am looking at the initial sound that is in my name. Mine is 'L' for Lockey so I am hoping to find a lolly, lion, log etc! You can encourage children to hunt for words that start with the initial sound of their name too, or focus on any sound you would like to explore! • • 🌼 Song lyrics: “I’m making lots of silly soup, I’m making soup that’s silly. I’m going to put it in the fridge, So it gets nice and chilly!” • 🌼 Resources: A tray/box Rice/flour/pasta for added sensory exploration Saucepan Spoon Selection of different objects that represent the initial sound of your child’s name (or any letter you would like to focus on!) • • 🌼 Opportunities to explore further: Can you make silly soup using different sounds? Can you put some of the objects you have found into a sentence? Can you create a story using your different objects? Can you practise writing the sound you have focused on in your soup? (This is where the extra sensory resources can be really useful! E.g: rice, pasta, flour etc!) • • 🌼 It’s always great to find a selection of different objects with different initial sounds, as that way you can discuss together the difference between the sounds of each word and work out which will work for your soup. This activity has been around for years and I am sure there are many wonderful interpretations of it so please explore in whatever way you would like, but most importantly have fun!
