Aspect 3: General sound discrimination - Body Percussion "Singing songs and action rhymes" Letters and Sounds It’s circle time! For our phonics circle time today we sang the song '5 little Easter eggs'. The aim of this aspect is to develop children's awareness of sounds and rhythms. Can they join in and keep to the rhythm at home? I bet they can! You encourage them to make their own circle with their teddies and join in singing with me at home! This song is also a great way to help develop the children's counting skills as they can count how many Easter eggs there are at the beginning and how many are left once some have been eaten. The use of numbered eggs also helps to develop the children's number recognition. The spots on the eggs represent the number that they match to, helping the children to develop their understanding of matching quantity to numeral. Counting with jumps/pats/claps is a great way to show the children that it is not only numbers that can be counted. I have attached a photograph of the lyrics so that you can join in singing at home. You can also make your own eggs together - try to encourage them to add the right amount of dots to represent each number! You could also use real life objects. It is great to give the children something tactile to help develop their learning. Physically moving/touching/removing an object will help give them a greater understanding of exploring numbers. 🌼 Resources: Paper (coloured or plain which you can then decorate!) Scissors Pencils • 🌼 Opportunities to explore further: Can you find different objects to count? Can you change the lyrics to any other objects (5 little buttons, 5 little socks, 5 little hair bands etc!) Can you add a repeated pattern to your Easter eggs? (check out the previous video for some ideas!) Can you make Easter eggs out of different materials? (Playdough, blu-tac, fabric, pasta shapes?) • Explore in whatever way you would like, but most importantly have fun! Please feel free to share the videos to friends and families, I just want to try and reach out and help however I can! Stay home and stay safe. Lots of love, Miss Lockey 🌼 xxx
