For our first activity we are looking at designing our own Easter eggs - Easter is nearly here after all! This is a really fun activity that covers so many areas of learning! The main focus in this activity is introducing repeated patterns to the children. Have a little discussion together about what patterns are and see if you can spot any patterns at home! I did this activity using a pom pom, a peg and some coloured paint. The use of a peg and pom-pom allows the children to develop their fine motor skills by pinching and releasing. However, this can be done in so many other ways! If you don't have pom-poms at home, you can use blu-tac, scrunched up piece of paper or a ball of tissue. Or just use pens/pencils/crayons/chalks - literally, whatever you have at home! You could even print it with different fruits (although I know that fresh fruit and veg are sacred right now!) • 🌼 Resources: Paint (or pencils/crayons/pens/coloured papers etc) Plain paper Scissors Pom poms (or blue-tac, scrunched up ball of paper, bottle top lid, cork etc) Pegs (washing line ones or small ones) • 🌼 Our “Littlest” little learners (3 and younger): Use paints to finger paint a pattern Use chunky chalks to make lovely big marks Please help supervise drawing and cutting egg where necessary • 🌼 Our “Biggest” little learners (4 and above): Create multiple size eggs and arrange in size order once complete Count how many eggs you have made Count how many patterns you can see in the house Cut your egg in half with a ‘zig-zag’ pattern, can you find the pieces to put it back together again? Create a repeated pattern using 2, 3, ,4 or even 5 different colours • 🌼 Opportunities to explore further: Can you spot different patterns in your home? Can you make a repeated pattern with natural objects outside? Can you find more shapes that look like an egg? Can you make an egg using natural objects outside? • Explore in whatever way you would like, but most importantly have fun! Please feel free to share the videos to friends and families, I just want to try and reach out and help however I can! Stay home and stay safe. Lots of love, Miss Lockey 🌼 xxx
