Do you remember was "The Rookies" on ABC back in 1972? Micheal Ontkean, Kate Jackson, Sam Melville, Georg Stanford Brown and Gerald S. O'Loughlin starred and it was so popular, that Aaron Spelling created a spin off and called it "S.W.A.T." The theme song from that new show was written by Barry De Vorzon, the same guy who wrote "The Theme From The Young & The Restless" or "Nadia's Theme". Steve Barri's son was a fan of the show and he asked his father to buy him the single, but there was none. So he watched the show with his six year old son and was entranced by the opening theme and felt a dance version could be a hit. Producers Steve Barri and Michael Omartian recorded the song with session players for this one off effort and dubbed the studio group Rhythm Heritage that included Steve Porcaro, Jay Graydon, Scott Edwards and Ray Parker Jr. The show debuted on February 24, 1975 and it was a ratings hit, it caught on and then the theme song was released as a single on November 15, 1975. It hit #1 for one week on February 28, 1976. Rhythm Heritage recorded a disco version of "Theme From Rocky" for a 1977 LP, then the "Theme From Starsky & Hutch" was on their 1978 album, with their last waxing issued in 1979.
