I genuinely think Haruo's theme is the best human character theme in the Godzilla franchise, and I know that's high praise. Hattori's work for the anime trilogy is so special in that regard, because he put just as much attention and care into the human characters' musical identity as the kaiju. For Haruo, his theme is the emotional core of these films' soundtrack, down to the point where his chords are recognizable without the motif atop it. Solemn piano and sustained, serene synth notes open his theme, before his main melody comes into fray. There are multiple components to it, different segments of the theme to give it life and range. The one everyone knows is his main motif, that sad, forlorn, yet determined sound that showcases Haruo's tragedy along with his determination to persevere. The next section is a lot more dower, most notable in the final section of Agonizing Decision, a melody that portrays his folly, the losses endured. The last section of his theme appears the least, most notable at the end of Earth's Civilization and Agonizing Decision, but it's where the hope and optimism return, though it ends on a harrowing note. Hattori also has impeccable range with how he plays Haruo's theme; piano and light orchestra are his main devices, but he turns it into an inspiring military march in Commander, a classical piece like Attack That Consumes the Planet, or a harrowing, emotional climax with male choir like in Agonizing Decision. It's such a powerful, and poignant theme, and I feel in spite of all the discussion and controversy these films provide, it brings out the emotions and beauty of what these films could have been at their core to some. And Haruo's theme is a beautiful, resonant example of that. = edited/rearranged TRACKLIST: 0:00 Haruo's Anguish 1:01 Haruo and Yuko* 1:50 Maina 3:25 Haruo's Memory + Maina 3:36 Haruo's Memory 5:35 Monster Planet 6:55 Decision of The Central Committee 7:10 Analysis Results 8:58 Attack That Consumes the Planet 9:46 Earth's Civilization 10:22 Commander 11:55 Godzilla Annihilation Strategy 14:13 Operation Instructions 15:33 Rush 15:57 Agonizing Decision* 19:35 Ruin and Salvation 19:47 Decision at the End 20:44 Ruin and Salvation 21:26 Farewell 23:59 Relief ℗ 2017-2018 #godzilla #godzillamonsterplanet #anime #godzillaanime #monsterverse Join the Discord!
