These videos show the careful and accurate disassembling work of the monumental “Schaaner Steam Engine No. 77.250”, in preparation for the transportation to the former railway workshop “Ceske Velenice” in the Czech Republic in June 2005.As these videos prove, it was solely and exclusively due to the idea and the preparatory work done by our club, the “Eisenbahnclub Schaan-Vaduz (ECSV)” that steam engine No. 77.250 is finally back on the rails again.A foundation had been set up in order to secure the financing of the project. Our steam engine specialists were excellently trained and perfectly prepared to guarantee the operation and maintenance of the engine in Liechtenstein at any time. As we disposed of qualified and experienced manpower in an adequate number, it was decided that the responsibility for any repair supervision should be taken by our club (ECSV). Because of an evil, malicious action we unfortunately lost the whole project. This is why – as you will notice on part 5 of the videos – we decided at that point, not to continue with the official coverage of the overhaul and repair work on the engine. According to its construction year, the appearance of the engine should correspond to the year 1927. A steam engine from the Austrian Republic with its correct designation BBÖ 629.65! As a matter of fact – and against all other pretensions – without the work of our club (ECSV), this steam engine would never have been restored to an operational condition The decision to keep it as a (slowly oxidizing) memorial, on a concrete base was already taken. It needed quite a few promises and written confirmations with regard to strict governmental stipulations, to convince of the owner, the village of Schaan, and the National Heritage Authority of Liechtenstein, to change their decisions in favour of our club. The present “owner” however, was and is obviously not willing to bring the engine back to Liechtenstein, although this would have been one of the strict stipulations mentioned earlier. The engine is still abroad, in Austria.Up to the present moment, we did not receive any compensation, not a single penny, for all our efforts and our work – amounting to more than 1400 hours – in connection with the disassembling of the engine and its transportation to the railway workshop “Ceske Velenice”, Czech Republic. Although, we are still considering to go to court in this matter.Nevertheless, we want to say thank you to everybody involved at the time of the disassembling, beginning in June 2005. We should not forget, that the engine would not be rolling on the rails today without the “Eisenbahnclub Schaan-Vaduz”. This is our merit and there is no doubt about it! These videos serve as a reminder to the hard but still exciting work performed during that time.
