Watch as I construct the wooden components for the fanciest camp chair in the history of mankind, the walnut and leather Roorkee. This is a collaboration with one of my best friends Jason Thigpen of Texas Heritage Woodworks who is an absolute wizard with leather. Campaign furniture was developed during the British military campaigns while they were colonizing different areas of the world. High ranking military officials wanted fancy furniture that was packable and portable, so enter an entire line of “Campaign Furniture.” The design was re-popularized by Christopher Schwarz in his book Campaign Furniture. This is a fairly simple spindle turning project on the lathe and results in a seriously fancy, seriously comfy walnut and leather chair.
