Starting or keeping an exercise routine can seem daunting at first but as you make it into a habit it becomes easier. And once you notice the difference in your mobility you will be happy to do that 20 minute yoga routine a couple times a week. None of us can predict what the future might hand us but we can continue to live a proactive healthy lifestyle that will prolong our ability to stay as active as possible as long as possible. The good news is that you can improve your flexibility, strength and endurance into your 90s so maybe this is the perfect time to begin or continue an exercise routine. And hopefully it includes yoga which is a proven method of developing and keeping you healthy. Staying flexible doesn't need chiropractor appointments and massage therapists although those are great things to do if you have the money/health plan that subsidizes the cost. Simple stretches and poses that focus on improving flexibility can be just as effective. Most doctors recommend Yoga and Chair Yoga has become almost a prescription many doctors issue!! A reminder that wherever you are in your journey towards a healthy body is exactly where you are meant to be!! As you follow through this session modify each pose if you need to by not going as deep or holding as long. Your job in yoga is to listen to your body. A little discomfort is optimum for growth but forcing your body into poses that cause pain is counter productive. If your exercising is causing you pain you will begin to avoid doing it That is exactly what you do not want to have happen. It is important to have a conversation with your doctor to make sure you don't do any poses that might create a problem for you. That way if you find I am doing a pose that is just not beneficial for you you can quickly add one that your doctor has recommended.
