Latter-day Saints often pride themselves on knowing the scriptures—especially the Book of Mormon. But there is a specific category of Book of Mormon prophecy that most members quietly set aside: the passages that speak directly to us, warning covenant people about deception, false teachers, secret combinations, and the danger of unquestioning loyalty. The Book of Mormon repeatedly commands believers to: Judge teachings by their fruits Reject false doctrine. Resist secret combinations, power consolidation, and moral compromise Remain loyal to Christ and His word—not to men And yet, modern LDS culture often treats unconditional support of leaders as a virtue, even when scripture explicitly condemns that posture. Because the Book of Mormon was not written to flatter us—it was written to warn us. And ignoring those warnings does not make us faithful. It makes us vulnerable. If we believe the Book of Mormon was written “for our day,” then eventually we have to ask: What if these warnings are actually about us?
