IALA Light Characterstics used in Buoyage II Sailor 360 Hello Navigator ! Today our topic- IALA Light Characterstics used in Buoyage II Sailor 360 1. Occulting Light (Oc) • Definition: Occulting light is a type of light where the light source is visible for a longer period than it is obscured. • How it Works: The light flashes and then disappears or is hidden for a period before reappearing. • Example: A buoy may flash for 5 seconds, then go dark for 2 seconds before flashing again. • Purpose: This type of light is commonly used for port-hand and starboard-hand lateral marks, helping to distinguish one mark from another. ________________________________________ 2. Flashing Light (Fl) • Definition: A flashing light consists of a light that is visible for a brief period, followed by darkness. The flash repeats in a regular pattern. • How it Works: The light flashes at regular intervals, such as once every 10 seconds. • Example: A buoy with a flashing light might flash once every 10 seconds (Fl (1) 10s), meaning the light is on for 1 second and off for 9 seconds. • Purpose: Flashing lights are used for both lateral marks and special marks. The rhythm helps vessels to identify the mark clearly. ________________________________________ 3. Isophase Light (Iso) • Definition: An isophase light is a light in which the time between the light’s appearance and disappearance is equal. • How it Works: The light shines and then fades at equal intervals, with the "on" and "off" times being exactly the same. • Example: A buoy with an isophase light might shine for 5 seconds and then fade for 5 seconds, repeating this cycle. • Purpose: Isophase lights are often used for safe water marks, as they represent a steady and predictable rhythm. ________________________________________ 4. Long Flashing Light (LFl) • Definition: This is a type of light that flashes at regular intervals, but the flash duration is long compared to a standard flashing light. • How it Works: The flash lasts longer, often lasting for several seconds, and the interval between flashes is also regular. • Example: A long flashing light might last for 2 seconds, with an interval of 8 seconds between flashes (LFl (2) 10s). • Purpose: This type of light is typically used for cardinal marks and isolated danger marks to differentiate them from other types. ________________________________________ 5. Quick Flashing Light (Q) • Definition: A quick flashing light is one in which the flash occurs at rapid intervals. • Example: A buoy with a quick flashing light might flash every 2 seconds (Q (2) 10s), where the "on" time is very brief. • Purpose: Quick flashing lights are commonly used for cardinal marks, especially to mark significant hazards or navigational features. ________________________________________ 6. Group Flashing Light (Fl (n)) • Definition: This type of light consists of multiple flashes occurring in a group followed by a longer period of darkness. • Example: A buoy might flash 3 times in a group, then go dark for 10 seconds (Fl (3) 10s). • Purpose: Group flashing lights are typically used for preferred channel marks or special marks, making it easier to differentiate them from others. ________________________________________ 7. Morse Code Light (Mo) • Definition: This light flashes a series of dots and dashes that correspond to the international Morse code. Eample: A buoy might flash the letter "A" in Morse code (· —), meaning a short flash followed by a long flash. • Purpose: Morse code lights are typically used for special marks or emergency wreck marking buoys, where additional information or warnings are needed. ________________________________________ 8. Fixed Light (F) • Definition: A fixed light is a steady light without any interruption. • Purpose: Fixed lights are typically used on safe water marks or special marks where the light needs to be visible constantly. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Video Sections: 00:00 Intro to Light Characteristics in Navigation 🚤 00:29 Aulting Light: Visibility Patterns Explained 💡 01:01 Flashing Light: Brief Signals Overview ⚡ 01:43 Quick Flashing Light: Rapid Rhythm Details 🚀 02:30 Very Quick Flashing Light: High Alert Signal ⚠️ 02:53 Isophase Light: Balanced illumination Concept ⚖️ 03:15 Long Flashing Light: Extended Visibility Signal ⏱️ 03:40 Morse Code Light: Communication Through Signals 📡 04:03 Alternating Light: Color Cycle Importance 🎨 04:34 Navigation Mastery: Utilizing Light Characteristics 🧭 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For Sponsorship Contact us at: [email protected] --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Website : https://sailor360.net ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for watching this video.See you in next video. #sailor360
