Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying M.Arch Thesis 2025/2026-1 Rainforests are one of Earth’s most vital life-support systems. They regulate our climate, sustain biodiversity, and support human livelihoods. Yet in tropical countries like Malaysia, rainforest coverage continues to decline rapidly due to deforestation and large-scale commodity plantations. While nature interpretive centres exist to raise environmental awareness, many remain focused on information display rather than lived experience. As a result, visitors may understand ecological issues intellectually, but often leave without forming a deeper emotional bond with nature—limiting long-term awareness and care. This project explores how architecture can become an active tool for reconnecting people with the rainforest. By applying biophilic and multisensory design strategies, the proposal reimagines the nature interpretive centre as a living, immersive environment—one that engages the body, senses, and emotions. Through spatial sequencing, circulation, and sensory interaction, architecture encourages visitors to experience nature rather than simply observe it. Ultimately, the project aims to foster an innate human–nature bond, transforming environmental awareness from passive knowledge into ecological empathy and stewardship.
