After seven years of construction and 40+ years since East Contra Costa County residents began paying for the BART system, eBART has finally opened between Pittsburg/Bay Point and Antioch stations. Witness one of the first-ever captured rides on the brand-new system from Antioch to Pittsburg/Bay Point the day of its grand opening, Saturday, May 26, 2018. Side note: This is the first video captured with a new camera, so expect better image quality than ever before for every upcoming video! The entire route takes about 12 minutes and is operated by Stadler-built diesel multiple unit trains, which whisk passengers along the route at a top speed of 75 mph. Quiet and smooth, the trains operate from renewable diesel fuel and provide a stark contrast to the rest of the noisy and jarring BART system. eBART opened on the day of this recording and uploading - May 26, 2018 - after construction began seven years ago, in 2011. The system adds two new stations to the SFO/Millbrae - Pittsburg/Bay Point line, and extends the BART system to serve one of the fastest growing regions of the Bay Area. Future extension plans are already in the works, the most popular idea being to extend the current eBART system to serve the outermost suburbs of Brentwood and Oakley along Highway 4. For now, eBART is expected to carry tens of thousands of passengers every weekday, and serves to take nearly 100 million vehicles off the road every year. It brings with it ever-increasing transportation options to Contra Costa's outer suburbs, and connects thousands of citizens to the rest of the BART system and the San Francisco Bay Area. -- Contents: 00:00 - Antioch - Pittsburg Center 7:35 - Pittsburg Center - Pittsburg/Bay Point
