Welcome to Holmwood Farm, a stunning transformation of a 1980s red brick chalet bungalow into a contemporary family home, designed by RX Architects in the picturesque High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Wadhurst, United Kingdom. Set within several acres of land, this 370m² home offers breathtaking views down the valley, blending seamlessly with its rural surroundings. The project reimagined the run-down property into a sustainable, modern retreat, featuring open-plan living spaces that connect effortlessly with the outdoors. Key to the design was the reuse of the existing structure, making the project both cost-efficient and environmentally friendly. The home now boasts a large solar array, heat pumps, and natural ventilation, with newly insulated walls clad in charred timber and a roof of standing seam zinc. Polished concrete floors provide thermal mass, ensuring energy efficiency year-round. Large-scale flat roof dormers were added to create spacious bedrooms with panoramic countryside views. The master bedroom, located on the ground floor, features a double-height space, a mezzanine with an en suite, and a dressing room. It opens directly to the garden, framing views through a recessed glazed gable and providing access to a polished concrete terrace and a natural swimming pool.
