Distance : 14 miles Elevation Gain : 4200ft Level : Hard FTH ambassador Robin leads a group hike up to Mount Wilson kicking off her Beginner 6POP Series challenge. We had an amazing turnout of hikers ranging from various skill levels, a few of them bagging their very first peak! In her Beginner 6POP Series Robin aims at helping hikers who have never bagged peaks and who are curious as to what it entails. She cover's everything from how to train, what gear to bring, and to packing the 10 essentials. Since these hikes are geared toward beginner peak baggers the pace will be much slower and we take as many breaks as we need. These hikes are not about speed, they're intended to help you become a stronger and smarter hiker, and we do it together. If you've never bagged a peak this might be your opportunity. Our Route: From the trailhead, we took the Lower Winter Creek Trail via Sturtevant Camp to the summit of Mt. Wilson. We returned to Chantry Flats via the Upper Winter Creek trail, completing a challenging (but wonderful) 14 mile loop in the San Gabriel Mountains.
