This week is ‘Maternal Mental Health Week’ - and so, to help raise awareness around the impact of breastfeeding upon the mental health of mums, three wonderful women have joined forces to share their lived experiences. This week, you will hear about the below stories: 🤱 Post-Weaning Depression: Lived experience shared by Rebecca Reed 🤱 Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex (D-MER): Lived experience shared by Lara Roberts 🤱 Jaundice, Tongue-Ties and so much more: Lived experience shared by Amy Elise Walter In these three videos, shared over the course of the week, Lara, Amy and Rebecca will talk through their breastfeeding journeys, how each experience impacted their mental health and any learnings they took from this experience. The aim of these videos is to provide you with a better understanding of the varied challenges that often come with breastfeeding, and how so many women silently battle with feelings of shame, guilt and loneliness. We will start this week off by sharing Rebecca Reed's lived experience of post-weaning depression. What you can expect in this video: A story of lived experience, discussing the issues caused by a difficulty with latching during breastfeeding, a lack of understanding about why Rebecca could not achieve a successful latch, the journey around moving away from breastfeeding onto formula feeding, and the shame, guilt and shift in hormones associated with that move. In this video, Rebecca shares openly about her experience and history of suicidal thoughts because, as a mental health professional, she believes that - if she is not able to be open, honest and vulnerable about her experiences, how can she expect anyone else to be. Whether you’re a new mum, supportive partner, supportive employer or a good friend - we hope these videos are wonderfully helpful for you. No two women are the same and no two babies are ever the same. Nothing shared in this video replaces the advice of a medical professional. The aim is to share a story that might one day help someone in their own journey.
