This week is ‘Maternal Mental Health Week’ - and so, to help raise awareness around the impact of breastfeeding upon the mental health of mums, three wonderful women have joined forces to share their lived experiences. This week, you will hear about the below stories: 🤱 Post-Weaning Depression: Lived experience shared by Rebecca Reed 🤱 Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex (D-MER): Lived experience shared by Lara Roberts 🤱 Jaundice, Tongue-Ties and so much more: Lived experience shared by Amy Elise Walter In these three videos, shared over the course of the week, Lara, Amy and Rebecca will talk through their breastfeeding journeys, how each experience impacted their mental health and any learnings they took from this experience. The aim of these videos is to provide you with a better understanding of the varied challenges that often come with breastfeeding, and how so many women silently battle with feelings of shame, guilt and loneliness. The second video of this week has been shared by Lara Roberts, who talks through her lived experience of Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex (D-MER). What you can expect in this video: A story of lived experience, discussing how different Lara's journey was with feeding her two biological babies and how this difference really caught her off-guard. Lara shares how it wasn't until she breastfed her second baby that she begun experiencing overwhelming feelings of darkness during the letdown stage, an experience she now knows as D-MER. With such a limited amount of information out there - both within the medical profession and on the internet - Lara really struggled to get the support she needed. Whether you’re a new mum, supportive partner, supportive employer or a good friend - we hope these videos are wonderfully helpful for you. It’s a place to go if you’re struggling to cope and need support. 🗣 PANDAS: Mental health support for pregnant and new parents. PANDAS offer a support groups (online & in-person), a free helpline, text line and email support Monday-Sunday offering signposting and a listening ear for parents experiencing mental health difficulties during pregnancy or after having a baby. ---------------------------------------- ❗️Please note❗️ This experience is Lara's own lived experience and it’s important to understand that while this has been Lara's experience of breastfeeding and D-MER, every woman’s experience and every baby's journey with breastfeeding is different. No two women are the same and no two babies are ever the same. Nothing shared in this video replaces the advice of a medical professional. The aim is to share a story that might one day help someone in their own journey.
