Model railroading is a fine art that doesn't have to be expensive! Bob Roegge has constructed a masterpiece using only used cereal box and toilet paper tube cardboard, balsa wood strips, and acrylic paints, with some inexpensive electronic components, and low-cost toy cars and trains, to build his "Geneseo" freelanced train layout. Everything is built to 1/24th scale, with a track gauge of 15", allowing him to use HO scale wheels and mechanisms for his rolling stock. He uses "dead rail" battery powered engines, so there is no wiring on the layout, and his CVP DCC system sends signals to tiny receivers in each of his scratchbuilt and 3D printed locomotives, which are built on top of inexpensive "Thomas the Tank" toy engines. This video is a rave review of Bob's layout by Burr Stewart, who visited an operating session on the Geneseo as part of the 2023 "OS Omaha" operations weekend, held every two years in and around Omaha, NE, USA. He shows a few minutes of the action during the operating session, and then gives a brief slide show of some of the basic elements of the layout, including the electronics Bob uses, automobiles, trees, turntables made from compact discs, and his scratchbuilt freight cars and cabooses. He also shows three of the "micro layouts" that Bob made before tackling this larger project. Burr took the video and still photos with an iPhoneX and edited them with Davinci Resolve 19.1.2. The layout owner contributed revisions to a draft video and approved its publication.
