In Jujutsu Kaisen season 1, episode 2 (“For Myself”), Yuji Itadori wakes up after swallowing Sukuna’s cursed finger and meeting Satoru Gojo, a powerful sorcerer from Tokyo Jujutsu High. Gojo explains that Yuji has become the host of the dangerous curse Ryomen Sukuna, which should mean his immediate execution. However, instead of killing him right away, the higher-ups decide to let him live for now so he can collect the rest of Sukuna’s fingers. Gojo then brings Yuji to Tokyo Jujutsu High, where he meets the principal, Masamichi Yaga. The principal tests Yuji’s determination by making him fight cursed puppets, forcing him to prove his true reason for wanting to live. Yuji declares that he wants to help others and prevent people from dying unfairly, inspired by his grandfather’s last words. After passing the test, Yuji is accepted as a student at Tokyo Jujutsu High, officially beginning his journey as a jujutsu sorcerer.
