From June 5-7, 1969, Bravo Company of the 3rd Battalion, 22nd Infantry and Alpha Battery of the 7/11 Artillery defended Fire Support Base Crook eight miles northwest of Tay Ninh City against three consecutive night attacks by two North Vietnamese regiments, using sensors, radar, and devastating beehive artillery rounds to kill 400 enemy soldiers while suffering only one American killed and eight wounded. The firebase was deliberately designed as a trap to lure NVA forces into attacking, and when Captain Larry Thomas and his 200 defenders faced thousands of charging enemy soldiers over 72 hours, they achieved one of the most lopsided victories in Vietnam War history proving that properly prepared American positions with overwhelming fire support were essentially invincible. #history #vietnamwar #historyforsleep
