From April 9-21, 1975, Brigadier General Le Minh Dao's 18th Division held Xuan Loc for twelve days against 40,000 North Vietnamese troops, killing 5,000 enemy and destroying 37 tanks before withdrawing with 30% casualties when asked about the hopeless odds, Dao told reporters "Please tell the Americans you have seen how the 18th Division can fight and die." This twelve-day stand delayed the fall of Saigon just long enough for 7,000 Americans and Vietnamese to escape, and on April 21st, the same day Xuan Loc fell, President Thieu resigned in tears, blaming America for abandoning South Vietnam. #history #historyforsleep #vietnamwar #vietnam
