That is my school project I did for the 3rd semester in my After Effects class.... and I kind of decided to turn it into a gift for my DnD players! last year I started getting into DnD again and I love it so incredibly much. You saw the Aily animatic, I play as a sweet owlin princess, but that wasn't enough for me. I knew that the job of a DM highly fascinates me. My passion does not only come with drawing, but storywriting in general - and I also love being a boss, and organizing hundreds of story elements for actually people to discover what I prepare is what fills me with happiness. So I tried it out with three friends of mine that have little to no experience in DnD. My DM from the other campaign joined the group as a guest player to play as two (or technically three) NPCs in that session. In a spontaneous act, I allowed him to play as a evil water spirit to punish my players for arguing right after almost dying through a fight with a wyvern, and through other little moments that appeared, I thought that it was the right time to hit... And well, everyone could escape, except for the only character that tried to stop the group from arguing. And that character is a kenku named Krix-Krax. Krix-Krax is a very kind bard that is in love with the minotaur NPC and friends with the kobold and aarakocra. The other aarakocra and the "little man" are NPCs also played temporarily by my DM also had a good bond with him, but the water spirit sadly managed to kill Krix-Krax. But we came up with an idea. The little man helped him out while the minotaur and kobold mourned for him, and left after he gave him a personal gift (happening shorty before the animatic starts). He leaves the group as he has other plans to follow and shortly after, the two aarakocras arrived to see their friend dead. I described to him, that he sees scenes describing his friends and family with special moments that showed how they bonded with each other and what made up personal moments in the campaign. Shortly after, the kobold sorcerer notices that his friend's hand emits a mysterious aura. And when he touches his hand, he comes back to life - his hand turning white and all his friends in shock. And the first thing the kenku asks, if the minotaur is doing okay. We already played the next session and discovered, that his new ability seems to bring him the ability to speak with the dead. And there is more to come in the future. And yeah, we brought him back cause both I and my DM panicked that he killed MY player even though his attention was to just scare my players a little :,) So he came up with an idea that actually fits the narrative incredibly well. But my players don't know what exactly awaits them. ---------------------- So, honestly, our task in After Effects was simply to do a small character animation with seperated images to make the limbs move. Yeah, it got a little out of hand. After all, we just experienced this amazing moment in our game. And I love doing animatics. I love doing them so much that I take every opportunity to make one for epic moments my or my friend's characters lived through. What should I say, I definetely did far more than I would have needed to, but I don't care! The original deadline was also very close which was quite a little stressful, just to find out that it gets delayed when I already finished it. Welp. Time management training! Always see things positive! It's definetely an upgrade to my past animatics as I didn't do still images with faint movements put quite a lot of animation. Usually I did my works in Premiere too, so the fact I also had to learn a new editing program was another challenge. But I saw lots of similarities between the programs and I might stick to After Effects for future Animatics!
