🎶 Presenting Raga Kukubh Bilawal — a unique morning raga from the Bilawal thaat, blending the delicate charm of Jaijaiwanti and Jhinjhoti in the Poorvanga with the clarity of Bilawal in the Uttaranga. Known for its expressive use of Rishabh (R) and Dhaivat (D), the raga here unfolds through three rich compositions: 1️⃣ Bada Khayal in Roopak Tala – ‘Mehar Piya’, composed by Ustad Amir Khan (a tabla player and singer from Rajasthan) and preserved by Prof. B. R. Deodhar. 2️⃣ Bandish Ki Thumri by ‘Chand Piya’, a renowned Kathak and Thumri composer from Lucknow. 3️⃣ Dadra – ‘Bahut Din Pachhe Saiyya More Aye’, reconstructed by Dr. Ashok DaRanade from Thumri Sangraha, a rare compilation by Narhar Shambhu Bhave featuring works from Ustad Rahat Ali Khan of the Chand Piya tradition. A soulful journey through tradition, rediscovery, and timeless melody. 🌅🎤 Gaan Parimal (गान परिमल) was a special concert featuring rare Khayal compositions in uncommon Ragas from the repertoire of Ustad Sindhe Khan, Prof. B. R. Deodhar, and Dr. Ashok Da Ranade. This thematic program, curated by Dr. Chaitanya Kunte under the ‘Performance from Archives’ series, marked the 10th anniversary of the ‘Dr. Ashok Da Ranade Archives’ and was organized by Maharashtra Cultural Centre, Pune. The concert was held on Sunday, 27th October 2024, at Jyotsna Bhole Auditorium, Hirabaug, Pune.
