We're back, Adventures! This time we're making Laufen's Donuts from Frieren: Beyond Journey's End! These are SO EASY and delicious that you'll NEVER want to buy store-bought donuts again! This recipe makes a bakers dozen along with a bunch of donut holes and is a FABULOUS way to impress picky relatives for the holidays... just saying. The best part is this recipe is SUPER easy and you likely have all of these ingredients in your pantry already!!! As always, the recipe and instructions are in the description below. Recipe: 1 Cup Granulated Sugar 1 Tablespoon + 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon 1 Teaspoon Nutmeg 1 Teaspoon Ground Cloves 1/2 Teaspoon Salt 2 Large Eggs 1 Cup Milk 1/4 Cup Unsalted Butter - Melted and Cooled 4 Cups All Purpose Flour Oil For Frying Cinnamon Sugar Mix: 1/2 Cup Granulated Sugar 2 Tablespoons Cinnamon 1 Teaspoon Nutmeg 1 Teaspoon Ground Cloves Instructions: In a bowl mix the sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt. Transfer to your stand mixer and then add the eggs, milk, and butter. Mix to combine and then add in half the flour, mixing on medium to integrate completely before adding the remainder of the flour. Mix for 1 minute on medium to allow the dough to come together. If it's super sticky, add a little more flour about a tablespoon at a time until it's tacky, but not sticky and stringy. Wrap in plastic wrap and store in the fridge for one hour. Transfer to a floured work surface and roll out until about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out the donuts with a biscuit cutter or if you're cheap, like me, a glass. Remove the centers with the wide side of a frosting tip and roll into donut holes. Set aside on parchment paper lined baking racks while you heat your oil to temperature. In a heavy bottom pan, add enough oil to reach about 2 inches deep. Using a reliable thermometer, turn the heat to medium high and allow the oil to heat to 375 Degrees Fahrenheit. If you fry donuts in oil below 365 degrees you run the risk of oily donuts and nobody likes that. Prep your cinnamon sugar by mixing the ingredients in a bowl and set aside. Once the oil has reached the appropriate temperature, add the donuts and cook for 1.5 minutes on each side, flipping halfway through. Remove to a wire rack above some paper towels and allow to cool slightly before rolling in the cinnamon sugar. Or powdered sugar. Or make a simple glaze to glaze them in. Keep an eye on the temperature of the oil to make sure it doesn't go above 385 Fahrenheit or below 365 Fahrenheit. For the donut holes, add them to the frying oil and cook for about 60 seconds, stirring them every 15 seconds. They should cook pretty quickly and be nice and golden when you remove them from the oil. Toss them in the same cinnamon sugar mix you used for the donuts. Serve with a glass of milk, a cup of tea, coffee, or apple cider! Enjoy!
