Gameplay of the boss Exor in Midway's War Gods. Exor's moves: http://www.gamefaqs.com/n64/199248-wa... War Gods (or Immortal Kombat, as I like to call it) was Midway's attempt at a 3D fighting game using an MK-style engine, in order to test the waters for other 3D fighting games, specifically Mortal Kombat 4. In this way it is something of an oddity, as it plays very similarly to an MK game, though was actually released the same time as MK3 in the arcades. Ignoring the silly title for a second (Gods are immortal, so making them fight is wholly pointless. Also, few of the characters are actual mythological gods, bar a few) War Gods is essentially the first 3D MK game, and as a result is rather flawed as a game. Most notably, character animations are somewhat jerky, the AI is somewhat too difficult and, perhaps most notably, the bosses are absolutely broken. This is definitely an MK game, that's for sure. Due to the fact that they were now forced to up their quality of programming, after being hacked the bosses in this game are fully playable, as opposed to the horribly unplayable messes that they were in the 2D Mortal Kombat games. The game contains two bosses; the green ogre creature Grox, and the green demon sorcerer Exor. Making both bosses the same colour was a terrible design choice, it must be said, however, the bosses play differently enough from one another that this isn't too much of a problem. What's more, if only to follow show that this is essentially an MK game, the main boss is a magic-based character, whereas the sub-boss is a lumbering brute who relies on physical attacks and throws. Exor is cheap. Extremely cheap. He has an ability similar to Cyrax's net, where he'll temporarily immobolise you and drag you closer to him, as well as the abilities to teleport, and fire a variety of different , hard-hitting laser attacks. He also has a force field attack which hits the opponent for good damage and knocks them back as well. However, his absolutely most broken move is his telekinetic slam. No only is this ludicrously easy to use (forward + LP), but it can be comboed four times, meaning that, as you'll see in the video, Exor often destroys the opponent with no resistance whatsoever. What's more, I don't believe it can be blocked, meaning that Exor can just destroy any character at will, any time he wishes. This reason alone makes him ludicrously broken. While his laser attacks are powerful and difficult to avoid, they're not as bad as having an instant-win move such as this. What's more, the telekinetic slam can be used as the opponent is getting up, before they can even respond, meaning there is absolutely no escape from it. The only relief to this is that when comboed into, this slam attack will do severely reduced damage. Then again, when its already so powerful, why bother to use any other attacks? The ports of the game never allowed bosses to fight against one another, and the game crashes when two of the same boss attempt to face another, which potentially means that this is the only footage of Exor fighting Grox in existence. ------------ I managed to play as Exor and Grox in this game by searching for character values, and then forcing the game to able me to play as them both. I will do a tutorial in the future on how to do this.
