Dr Mohammad Ibrar Alam Ansari discusses the flipped classroom in the context of teaching English as a foreign language. This session aims to empower participants with practical strategies for equipping EFL students with essential 21st century skills through the flipped classroom approach. The flipped classroom model, which has gained popularity among EFL educators, inverts the traditional classroom structure. Instead of spending class time on direct instruction, students engage with instructional content—such as videos or readings—outside of class. This shift allows classroom time to be dedicated to more communicative, productive, and collaborative activities. During the session, participants will explore how to support students in moving from lower-order thinking skills (LOTS) to higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). This progression fosters the development of key 21st century competencies: communication, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and leadership. This session is suitable for policymakers, experienced professionals, educators, teachers, and newcomers to the field. All participants will be encouraged to reflect on and leverage the flipped classroom model to enhance these vital skills and better prepare EFL learners to meet the demands and challenges of the modern world. This is the recording of a live symposium session presented to English Language Institute faculty.
