The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) commissioned its first Maya-class AEGIS Destroyer at Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU) Isogo shipyard in Yokohama on 19 March 2020. ===================== JS Maya まや (DDG-179) joins the JMSDF’s Escort Flotilla 1, based in Yokosuka. Launched on July 30th 2018 from the JMU Shipyard in Yokohama, the JS Maya is the first of a new class of improved destroyers with ballistic missile defense capabilities. Each unit costs around US$1,5Bn and were being built at the JMU’s shipyard at Isogo Ward in Yokohama. This will be a two ship class: JS Maya and JS Haguro.
