For the first time in 33 years, two of the world’s most sacred seasons began side by side. On February 18, 2026, Muslims around the world welcomed the holy month of Ramadhan, while Christians marked the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday — a rare calendar alignment last seen in 1993. Because the Islamic lunar calendar moves differently from the Gregorian solar calendar that determines Easter, it takes decades for these seasons to begin together again. In this special report from Kabale District, religious leaders reflect on the deeper meaning of this rare moment. Speaking at Masjid Jaamia Kirigime, Sheikh Khabu Lule calls on believers to embrace forgiveness, repentance, and unity during Ramadan. At the same time, Church of Uganda Archbishop Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu urges Christians to use Lent as a season of self-examination, reconciliation, and spiritual renewal. As Uganda moves forward after the 2026 general elections, both clerics emphasize a shared message: true reform begins within the individual. From Gaza to local communities at home, prayers for peace, compassion, and national unity take center stage. Though different in doctrine and tradition, both Ramadhan and Lent call for discipline, humility, prayer, charity, and transformation of the heart. And in 2026, millions across faiths are walking parallel spiritual journeys — united in reflection. This is more than a calendar coincidence. It is a powerful reminder that faith can inspire healing, dialogue, and hope. From Uganda Radio Network, we wish you a fruitful Lent and Ramadhan season.
